Identifying, understanding, and beating burnout

Identifying, understanding, and beating burnout

Work-related stress can get the best of us all. Emails, messages, phones ringing off the hook, your co-worker dropping by for an impromptu meeting — it’s enough to make anyone frazzled. Let us help teach you and your team about identifying, understanding, and beating burnout.

Feeling some tension is normal, especially if facing a looming deadline or challenging assignment. But when work stress becomes chronic, it can affect your physical and emotional well-being.

We can often compare our lives to those of others, which can further pressure us to be ‘successful.’ We put extra strain on ourselves to do it all and do it all well. We are tired, but we “need” to keep pushing through.

When you reach this stage of exhaustion, it is commonly called burnout. You feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and unable to respond to everyone’s demands.

Topics Covered:

  • Recognising and developing an awareness of when stress levels increase and actions you can take.
  • Understanding Stress vs Burnout
  • Burnout screening tools we should all have in our toolkits
  • The Pressure Cooker!
  • Finding and/or reinforcing “purpose”
  • Making the hard decisions
  • At it’s extreme… what is my breaking point?
  • Do I stay or do I go now…  negotiating with yourself
  • PROs and CONs, with weight and value
